The Master’s Lesson of the Flying Tortoise
The old master sat beneath the shade of an ancient tree. His student, restless and eager, spoke with fire in his voice.
"Master," the student asked, "how do I rise above the limitations of my nature? How do I go beyond what weighs me down?"
The master smiled gently, as if he had heard this question many times before.
"Let me tell you the tale," he began, "of the tortoise who wished to fly."
"There was once a tortoise, bound to the earth by his heavy shell and slow pace. Yet his heart soared among the clouds. He watched the birds with envy and whispered to the sky, 'If only I could join you, I would see the world beyond my pond.'
Two wise geese heard his longing. They said, 'We will carry you, old friend. Bite down on this stick between us, and we shall lift you to the heavens. But listen well: you must not open your mouth. Speak, and you will fall.'
The tortoise agreed. His dream was too precious.
Together, they rose into the sky. Higher and higher they climbed, until the pond was but a memory beneath him.
People below saw the strange sight and shouted, 'Look at that foolish tortoise in the sky!'
The tortoise’s heart burned with pride. 'They do not see my wisdom,' he thought. 'They do not know it was I who dreamed of this flight.'
And so, he opened his mouth to declare his triumph.
The stick slipped away.
His voice never reached the earth — but his body did."
The master paused and looked deep into the student's eyes.
"Understand this," he said softly. "Discipline is the wind beneath your wings. Pride is the weight that pulls you down. The tortoise’s dream was noble, but his downfall was not his ambition — it was his need to speak before he had arrived safely."
The student bowed, understanding.

"When you are rising, hold steady and silent.
Let your actions carry you higher.
Speak only when you are safely grounded —
when your success no longer depends on keeping your grip."
